This test demonstrates burning characteristics of two identical candles and votives. The candles were placed in a draft free area.
The wick of the candle on the right was trimmed to ¼” prior to lighting. Both candles were lit at the same time.
The candles were allowed to burn at the rate established by the height and temperature of the flame, based on the length of the wick.
The candle on the right was extinguished, trimmed to ¼”, and relit every two hours.
The untrimmed candle produces a larger, hotter flame with a notable increase in smoke and soot emission.
Proper candle maintenance provides a safer, longer, cleaner, uniform burn.
